The University of Mary Washington volleyball team swept a 3-0 decision from visiting Virginia Wesleyan University on Wednesday night at Ron Rosner Arena. Game scores were 25-23, 25-19, 25-10; the Eagles improve to 14-10 on the season.
The first game was tight and back-and-forth throughout, with the Eagles pulling away late to gain the game, as well as the momentum. In the second, UMW gained the lead at 9-8, and slowly built a lead, culminating in a 25-19 triumph, and in the third started hot and never looked back in a 25-10 win.
The Eagles were led by junior Krista Rodgers (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax), who scored 11 kills without an error in 14 attempts, and senior Aidan Finegan (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity), who posted 10 kills against one error in 24 attempts. Sophomore Emma Hadley (Chesapeake, Va. / Hickory) added six kills against one error in 14 attempts.
Freshman Lauren Foley (Virginia Beach, Va. /First Colonial) added 23 assists and junior Makenna Santinga (Madison, Va. /Madison County) nine, and Foley led with 11 digs, while senior Olivia Casey (Norfolk, Va. /Granby) added 10. Rodgers had six total blocks and sophomore Ally Fletcher (Severna Park, Md. /Severna Park) added five.
The Eagles will be back in action on October 23, when they face Marywood at Marymount University in a tri match at 4 and 6 p.m.
