UMW Volleyball Drops C2C Match to CNU on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropepd a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference match against visiting Christopher Newport University on Saturday afternoon at Ron Rosner Arena. Game scores were 25-16, 25-18, 25-14; the Eagles slip to 12-9 on the season.

The Eagles fell behind in the first, 6-1, and couldn't piece together any rallies in falling, 25-16.

In the second, the game remained tight throughout the first half of the frame, with CNU clinging to an 11-10 lead. From there, the visitors rallied for four straight points, but UMW answered with three of their own to cut the margin to 15-13. Later, a pair of Eagle points would draw them to within 18-15, but would draw no closer in a 25-18 defeat. 

In the third, UMW grabbed a 6-5 lead, and the match stayed within one or two points until the Captains rallied for seven of the next eight points in gaining the win.

UMW was led by senior Aidan Finegan (Camp Hill, Pa.), who scored nine kills. Freshman Lauren Foley (Virginia Beach, Va.) posted 10 assists and six digs, while junior Makenna Santinga Madison, Va.) added nine assists. Freshman Sarah Moore (Hellam, Pa.) scored 10 digs to pace the Eagles.

Mary Washington will return to action on Tuesday when the Eagles visit St. Mary's College at 7:00 p.m.
