UMW Volleyball Tops Gettysburg, 3-1, on Friday Night

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Gettysburg College, 3-1, on Friday night at the Anderson Center as part of the UMW Invitational, improving to 8-3 on the season and running its win streak to six. Game scores were 25-21, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20.

The Eagles fell behind in each of the first three games, battling back to tie the score late in the first to pull ahead for the 25-21 win, and again midway through the second in a 25-18 victory. In the third, Gettysburg held a lead throughout, before UMW jumped ahead early in the fourth and never looked back in a 25-20 win for the match.

The Eagles were led by senior Aidan Finegan (Camp Hill, Pa. / Trinity), who scored 12 kills in 27 attempts, and sophomore Jordan Lyons (Fairfax, Va. / W.T. Woodson) and senior Olivia Casey (Norfolk, Va. / Granby), who each recorded 11 kills. Freshman Lauren Foley (Virginia Beach, Va. / First Colonial) had 20 assists while freshman Claire Jenkins (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) added 18. Foley and Lyons led five players in double digit digs with 15 each. 

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday morning, when they host Catholic University at 10:00 a.m.
