UMW Volleyball Tops McDaniel, 3-1, on Tuesday Night

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated visiting McDaniel College, 3-1, on Tuesday night, running its win streak to five straight, improves to 7-3 on the season. Game scores were 25-18, 24-26, 25-9, 25-17.

The Eagles jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the first, punctuated by four straight points with freshman libero Sarah Moore (Hellam, Pa./Eastern York) serving. The Green Terror made a run late to draw within 23-18, but UMW scored the final two points to gain the win.

In the second, UMW fell behind, 14-6, but rallied to cut the deficit to 21-18, and knotted the score at 24, before the visitors scored two to take the second, 26-24. In the third, UMW responded with a bang, taking a 25-9 score, before claiming the fourth with a 25-17 win after jumping out to a 6-1 lead early on.

The Eagles were led by senior Aidan Finegan (Camp Hill, Pa. / Trinity) with 12 kills and junior Krista Rodgers (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) with 11. Junior Makenna Santinga (Madison, Va. / Madison County) scored 25 assists while Freshman Lauren Foley (Virginia Beach, Va. / First Colonial) added 16, and Senior Olivia Casey (Norfolk, Va. / Granby) scored 17 digs, with Moore adding 16. Rodgers had one solo block and five block assists, while Finegan posted one solo and three block assists. Moore posted three aces.

UMW will return to action on Friday when they host Gettysburg College at 8 p.m. as part of the UMW Invitational.
