UMW Volleyball Tops York in Three Games on Friday Night

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team swept a three-game match from visiting York College of Pa. on Friday night in Capital Athletic Conference action from Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles move to 10-9 on the year, and 4-1 in CAC play.

The Eagles took the opening game by a 25-14 margin. After the match started with York taking two of the first three points, the Eagles reeled off five straight, with Tenley Hares scoring a pair of kills and Peyton Dunow adding a kill and an ace. Leading 9-6, UMW scored four straight, and with the lead at 17-11, UMW scored five straight  to get the lead to 22-11. Dunow scored the game winner with a kill.

In the second, the Eagles started with three straight points, only to see the Spartans return with five straight. York extended its lead to 10-6 before the Eagles reeled off six straight, with kills from Aidan Finegan and Savannah Powers. With the lead at 15-14, UMW scored six of the next eight points to extend to a 21-16 cushion. Three straight points pushed the Spartans to the verge at 24-17, and the teams traded points to end the second, with UMW taking a 25-18 win.

The Eagles rolled to an 8-2 lead in the third, with Powers gaining a pair of kills. The Eagles extended the lead to 12-4, before the Spartans began to chip away, coming back to draw to within 15-11. York drew to within two, at 19-17, but after an Eagle timeout, kills from Hares and Dunow pushed the largin back to four. Kills from Powers and Dunow moved the lead to 24-18, and another kill from Powers ended the match.

Powers led the Eagles with 13 kills, while Dunow added 11 to go with four aces. Wren Berry made 31 assists, Kendal Hall had 16 digs, and Finegan posted five block assists.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Muhlenberg College at 2 pm and Johns Hopkins at 4 in Baltimore.
