UMW Volleyball Rolls Past Penn St.-Harrisburg, 3-0, to Finish CAC Play Undefeated

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team topped Penn St.-Harrisburg, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon to finish CAC play undefeated at 7-0 for the first time since 1991. The Eagles improve to 18-10 on the season. 

After trading off the first five points, the Eagles took advantage of the first set as they scored eight points in a row to take an 11-2 lead. During that run, Savannah Powers put down three kills. UMW continued to grow the lead as Ryan Cho recorded a kill to make the game 16-3. Tenley Hares and Alana Harris capped the first set as they recorded an assist block to win 25-6.

The Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 advantage in the second set as Harris and Hares each recorded a kill. Harris then recorded a service ace that put UMW up 12-2. Leslie Walters kept the Eagles up nine, 15-6, on a kill from Berry. A kill and a block from Peyton Dunow gave UMW set point, and Harris closed it out with a service ace to take set two, 25-11.

UMW again jumped out to a fast start in the third set as they won the first six points. Aidan Finegan and Harris recorded two kills, and Olivia Casey recorded one within those points. The Lions made a run and went down one, 9-8. Finegan put down a kill from Berry to put the Eagles up four, 14-10. Keri Gearhart recorded back-to-back kills to keep UMW up five, 19-14. Skyler Sisk capped the set with a kill from Berry to win 25-16.

The Eagles hit .450 on the day. Harris and Powers led the team in kills with six a piece. Berry dished out 32 assists, while Ryan Cho had seven digs. 

UMW will be back in action on Tuesday night as they will host St. Mary's in the first round of the CAC tournament at 7 p.m.
