UMW Volleyball Falls to Mount Union, Carnegie Mellon on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped both of their matches on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, PA. The Eagles fell to Mount Union University 3-2, and then lost to Carnegie Mellon University in three sets. UMW falls to 9-7 on the season.

In the first match against Mount Union, UMW jumped ahead as they took the first set 25-22. They hit .294 in that set, their highest mark of the day. The Raiders won the second set 25-20.

The Eagles came back and grabbed the third set, 25-21, to take a 2-1 lead. Mount Union then went on to win sets four and five in two very close games. The Raiders won 25-23 in the fourth, and then 15-13 in the fifth to win the match. 

Leslie Walters led the Eagles with 15 kills and five blocks. Keri Gearhart added 13 kills, while hitting .455, and Peyton Dunow had 12 kills on 32 attempts. Wren Berry dished out 24 assists and Kendal Hall had 21. Ryan Cho picked up 19 digs.

In the second match, the Eagles dropped a three set match to Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans won 25-21, 25-23, and 25-21. Walters and Alana Harris both had nine kills for UMW. Berry had 18 assists and Hall had 17. 

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday as they will travel to Marymount for a game at 6 p.m.
