UMW Volleyball Outlasts Randolph Macon, 3-2, on Tuesday Night

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team outlasted Randolph Macon College, 3-2, on Tuesday night in Ashland, Va., to improve to 4-1 on the season. Game scores were 21-25,25-13,25-20,22-25,15-13.

The Eagles started slowly, registering 11 errors in the first game, and fell, 25-21. In the second, the Eagles forced seven Yellow Jacket errors against just six kills in a 25-13 win, and followed with 18 kills in a 25-20 win in game three. After falling in the fourth, 25-22, UMW gained an early slim lead and held on throughout for a 15-13 victory to clinch the match.

Senior Leslie Walters and junior Peyton Dunow each had 17 kills to lead Mary Washington, while junior Savannah Powers scored 10. Freshmen Alana Harris and Keri Gearhart each added six kills. Sophomore Wren Berry had 28 assists and junior Kendal Hall added 27, and senior Ryan Cho led the way with 31 digs. Walters recorded a double double, adding 17 digs, while Powers scored 14 digs in a double double effort. Dunow scored four total blocks.

The Eagles will be right back in action on Wednesday night as they host Virginia Wesleyan University in the home opener at 7 p.m.
