UMW Volleyball Splits with Muhlenberg, Susquehanna

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Muhlenberg in their early game but fell to Susquehanna in the later game in day two of the CNU Captains Classic in Newport News. The Eagles defeated Muhlenberg 3-2, while falling to Susquehanna 3-0. UMW is now 3-1 on the season.

In the first match of the day against Muhlenberg, UMW won the first game. The Mules of Muhlenberg then took the next 2 sets to take a 2-1 lead.

From there, the Eagles fought back to take the last two sets to defeat Muhlenberg.

Freshman Keri Gearhart led the Eagles with 17 kills, while Savannah Powers scored 13 and Leslie Walters 12. Powers led with 24 digs, with Ryan Cho adding 23. Kendal Hall had 36 assists, while Wren Berry added 13 and Cho 10.

After a grueling first match, UMW fought hard against Susquehanna in the first set but came up just short 27-25. Susquehanna then went on to win the next two sets 25-21, 21-19. 

Alana Harris led the Eagles with 11 kills and a .529 hitting percentage. Powers finished with eight kills, while Dunow and Walters both had seven kills. Hall produced 20 assists and Berry contributed eight. Cho and Powers both led UMW in digs with 11.

Cho and Walters were named to the all-tournament team.

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday as they will travel to Randolph-Macon at 7 p.m.
