UMW Volleyball Falls to #23 Christopher Newport, 3-2, on Thursday Night

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a five-game decision to 23rd ranked Christopher Newport University on Thursday night at Ron Rosner Arena. Game scores were 27-25, 25-20, 13-25, 21-25, 16-14.

The Eagles dropped the first two games, the first of which came at 27-25. UMW rebounded in a big way in the third, winning 25-13, before an emotional 25-21 win in game four. The Eagles trailed from the outset in the fifth, but rallied to tie the score at 14-14 before the Captains scored the final two points for the decisive game win.

UMW was led by sophomore Savannah Powers' 17 kills and four digs, while Peyton Dunow and Skyler Sisk each had 12 kills. Freshman Wren Berry scored 51 assists and 17 digs, while Dunow notched three service aces and 22 digs. Senior Jenna Yost had 25 digs in the contest.

UMW will return to action on Saturday for a tri match with Washington & Lee at Virginia Wesleyan College.
