UMW Volleyball Tops Catholic, 3-0; Yost Becomes All-Time Leader in Digs

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team swept a 3-0 decision from visiting Catholic University on Wednesday night at Ron Rosner Arena. Senior Jenna Yost became the school's all-time leader in career digs in the contest with her 1,525th dig early in game two.

In the opening game, the Cardinals jumped out to a 10-5 lead early, and the Eagles stayed close until a rally tied the score at 22-22. After a Cardinal point, UMW reeled off three straight to take game one, 25-23.

The second saw Yost surpass the school mark for career digs with her first in the second game, breaking the record previously held by Jackie Durr '05, who had 1,524 from 2001-04. The Eagles scored three straight to take a 5-3 lead, and added another three point run to lead, 15-10. The Eagles closed the game with four straight points for a 25-17 victory.

In the third, the Eagles scored four straight to take a 13-7 advantage. The Eagles closed out the match with three straight points in a 25-19 win.

Sophomore Savannah Powers had 16 kills against four errors to lead the offense, while junior Leslie Walters had 12 kills without an error, and sophomore Peyton Dunow added 12 kills against five errors. Powers and sophomore Skyler Sisk each had three aces, while freshman Wren Berry scored 44 assists and two aces. Yost and junior Ryan Cho each had 15 digs.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday when they visit Wesley College at 7 pm in another CAC contest.
