#10 UMW Volleyball Edges #16 Eastern in Thrilling Five Setter at Haverford

The 10th ranked University of Mary Washington volleyball team overcame a 2-0 set deficit to down 16th ranked Eastern University, 3-2, in UMW's second match of the day at the Haverford College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 16-25, 15-25, 29-27, 25-20, 17-15.

Trailing two sets to none, UMW outlasted Eastern in the third, and took the fourth to set up the pivotal fifth set. The Eagles led 3-0 early, but Eastern responded and led, 8-7, at the cross over. Eastern led, 14-13, but the Eagles roared back with four of the last five points to gain the thrilling win.

Sophomore Peyton Dunow led the Eagles with 25 kills and 15 digs, while sophomore Savannah Powers added 22 kills, 11 digs, and three aces. Leslie Walters posted 11 kills, and Jenna Yost scored 31 digs. Freshman Wren Berry added 64 assists in the victory.

UMW will return to action on Sunday when they face Stevens Institute in Haverford at noon.
