#15 UMW Volleyball Tops Marymount, 3-0, in CAC Semifinal; Advances to Title Match on Saturday

The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Marymount University in three games, 26-24, 25-15, 25-18, in a Capital Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal on Thursday night at Ron Rosner Arena. With the win, the Eagles will advance to and host the CAC Championship match on Saturday.

Marymount jumped ahead early in game one, running up a 6-2 lead after scoring the first three points. UMW used a pair of Savannah Powers kills to spark a 5-0 run to grab the lead at 7-6. After some back and forth play, the Saints scored three straight to take a 13-10 lead, and later held a 15-12 advantage.

From there, UMW scored five straight, led by a pair of Peyton Dunow kills. The Eagles extended the lead to 19-16 before Marymount netted four of the next five to assume a 20-20 tie. The teams alternated points until Marymount took a 24-23 lead. But UMW followed with a kill from Leslie Walters, a service ace from Ryan Cho, and a kill from Emma Olson to take the first game.

In the second, UMW jumped out to a 12-6 lead before MU closed the gap to 13-10. Leading 14-11, the Eagles scored five straight, including kills from Powers and Olson, to up the margin to 19-11, and held on for the 25-15 win.

UMW scored the first four points of the third, but Marymount fought back, tying the score at 4-4, and back and forth rallies followed until UMW scored scored four straight to build an 11-7 lead. After a Saints point, UMW scored four straight to gain a 15-8 cushion, and never looked back in a 25-18 victory.

The Eagles were led by Powers and Peyton Dunow's 10 kills apiece, while Walters had nine and Rachel Hendricks eight. Emma Olson scored 35 assists, eight digs, and four kills. Jenna Yost had 16 digs, and Hendricks and Walters each had two block assists.

UMW will host Christopher Newport for the CAC title on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Ron Rosner Arena.
