#22 UMW Volleyball Tops #10 Eastern, Stockton to Improve to 15-1 on the Season

The 22nd ranked University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated 10th ranked Eastern University, 3-1, as well as host Stockton University, 3-1, on Sunday at the Stockton Invitational in Galloway, N.J., to improve to 15-1 on the season, their second best start in program history.

The Eagles topped Eastern, knocking them from the ranks of the undefeated, winning 25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19. Junior Rachel Hendricks led UMW with 12 kills, while Leslie Walters scored nine and Savannah Powers and Skyler Sisk each had eight.

Senior Emma Olson had 34 assists and 13 digs, while junior Jenna Yost led with 17 digs, and Mackenzie Brewer added 12. Sisk added eight total blocks for UMW.

UMW had to refocus after the big win, in facing host and NCAA Sweet 16 team from a season ago, Stockton. UMW answered with a four-game win, taking a 19-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23 victory to get to 15 wins.

After dropping the first game, UMW connected for 19 kills against just two errors in the second, hitting an amazing .486 for the game. Walters and Hendricks led the way with 16 kills apiece, while Sisk added 12. Olson provided 47 assists, and Yost led with 11 digs. Walters scored 16 kills with no errors in 23 attempts for a .696 hitting average.

Mary Washington will be back in action again on Wednesday when they visit Southern Virginia University at 6 p.m. in the Capital Athletic Conference opener.
