#21 UMW Volleyball Tops Piedmont, Covenant at Emory Invite to Improve to 10-1

The 21st ranked University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Piedmont College, 3-0, and Covenant College, 3-1, on Saturday at the Emory University Invitational in Atlanta, to improve to 10-1 on the season.

The Eagles topped Piedmont by identical 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 scores. Freshman Savannah Powers led the charge, with 14 kills, nine digs, and four service aces. Freshmen Skyler Sisk and Rachel Voketaitis each had seven kills, and Peyton Dunow and Emma Olson both added a team-high 12 digs, with Olson adding 28 assists.

UMW then topped Covenant, 25-17, 22-25, 26-24, 25-20. Junior Rachel Hendricks led with 19 kills against three errors, and Powers and Sisk each added 10 kills. Powers had 12 digs, with junior Jenna Yost providing 15, including the 1,000th of her career. Olson had 41 assists and 11 digs.

"This weekend allowed us to see four completely different styles of volleyball", said UMW head coach Matt Troy. "We were able to play everyone this weekend which helped us continue to build experience with our young team."

The Eagles, off to their best start since 2011 when they started 12-1, will be back in action again on Wednesday night when they visit Lynchburg College at 7 p.m.
