UMW Volleyball Tops Arcadia, Heidelberg on Saturday to Improve to 3-0

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team swept Arcadia College, 3-0, and then topped 2015 NCAA Tournament team Heidelberg, 3-1, on Saturday at the Haverford College Invitational, to improve to 3-0 on the season.

After sweeping Arcadia, 25-19, 25-14, 25-12, the Eagles came right back to top the Student Princes of Heidelberg, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 26-24.

In the Heidelberg match, freshman Savannah Powers led the way with 21 kills, 11 digs, and four total blocks, while junior Rachel Hendricks added 12 kills. Sophomore Leslie Walters had nine kills and eight blocks (five solo), and senior setter Emma Olson had six kills, 15 digs, and 47 assists in the match.

The Eagles hit .269 against the Student Princes, with 61 kills against 22 errors in 145 attempts.

In the Arcadia match, freshman Rachel Voketaitis led the way with nine kills, while Powers and Hendricks each had seven. Olson added four kills without an error, 25 assists, 11 digs and six service aces, and freshman Skyler Sisk added six block assists and one solo block.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Sunday when they face Clark and MIT at Haverford.
