UMW Volleyball Gains 20th Win with 3-1 Win at Va. Wesleyan on Tuesday Evening

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and held on for a 3-1 victory at Virginia Wesleyan College on Tuesday evening in nonconference action. The Eagles improve to 20-6 on the season, reaching the milestone for the second straight season.

The victory for the Eagles gives the team 20-plus wins for back to back seasons for the first time since 1992-93, and junior Emma Olson surpassed 2,000 for her career. Sophomore Jenna Yost moved into third place in school history in digs as well.

The Eagles breezed through the first game, 25-16, and held on for a 30-28 win in game two. After dropping the third, 22-25, the Eagles captured a 25-17 win in game four.

Sophomore Rachel Hendricks led the Eagles with 20 kills, while freshman Leslie Walters added 12 kills. Senior Emma Murphy had nine kills, four digs, and two block assists, and Megan Payne added five kills and three blocks.

Olson had four kills, 42 assists, and 16 digs, while Yost had 23 digs, Caroline Porco had 15 digs, and Casey Spanitz added 14.

 

The Eagles will close the regular season on Friday night when they host Southern Virginia University at 7 p.m. for senior night.
