UMW Volleyball Edges Marymount in Five Games, Sweeps Lynchburg to Improve to 19-6 on the Season

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team kicked off its trimatch with Marymount University and Lynchburg College with a five set win over Marymount on Saturday at the Anderson Center for Homecoming. Game scores were 25-27, 25-20, 25-22, 29-31, 15-13.

Offensively, the Eagles were led by freshman Leslie Walters and sophomore Rachel Hendricks, who each had 21 kills. Junior Emma Olson had nine kills, 48 assists, and 19 digs, while senior Emma Murphy had eight kills, six digs, and seven total blocks.

The Eagles then topped Lynchburg in three games, 25-20, 25-15, 25-23. The Eagles saw Jenna Yost record 17 digs, Casey Spanitz 12, and Caroline Porco 10. Hendricks had 14 kills, while Murphy added 12 to go with six digs and three block assists.

Emma Olson had 36 assists, eight digs, and six kills, and Payne added three total blocks as well.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday night when they host Southern Virginia University at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
