UMW Volleyball Tops Johns Hopkins, Stevenson to Improve to 10-3

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Johns Hopkins, 3-0, and Stevenson University, 3-1, on Saturday in Owings Mills, Md. The Eagles improve to 10-3 on the year, their best start in four years.

Game scores for the Hopkins match were 25-23, 25-17, 25-18. Sophomore Rachel Hendricks led the Eagles with 17 kills and a .314 hitting average. Freshman Eve Williamson had 19 assists for UMW, with junior Emma Olson adding 10 to go with four service aces.

Olson led UMW with 16 digs, while Jenna Yost had 11 and Caroline Porco 10. Senior Emma Murphy had six kills and two block assists.

The Eagles topped Stevenson in four, 18-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-17. Hendricks and Leslie Walters led UMW with 18 kills apiece, while Olson scored 31 assists, and WIlliamson added 10. Olson had three aces.

Yost had 23 digs and Olson had 12, and freshman Mallory Hill led the way with seven block assists, with Megan Payne adding four. The Eagles hit .385 in the third game, and .185 for the match.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Tuesday, when they visit Gallaudet University at 7:00 p.m.
