UMW Volleyball Sweeps Catholic on Wednesday Night to Improve to 8-3 on the Season

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Catholic University in three games on Wednesday night at the Anderson Center to improve to 8-3 on the season. Game scores were 25-12, 25-18, 26-24.

After handling the Cardinals in the first two sets, the Eagles found themselves trailing, 24-21, in the third. After a timeout, the Eagles stormed back with five straight points to take the game and match.

Rachel Hendricks led the Eagles with 13 kills against just one error, while Leslie Walters had nine kills and Emma Murphy eight. Emma Olson had 22 assists and Eve Williamson 14, and Jenna Yost recorded 14 digs. The Eagles combined for 15 total blocks in the match.

"Our blocking was key in the match tonight", said UMW head coach Matt Troy. "Every front row player recorded a block and I can't remember the last time seeing that feat in a match. It was great to see our hitters connecting at a higher efficiency rating as well. The energy was great on the court and our bench was instrumental in pushing the energy when it started to lower. Eagle Nation has been out in full force each week and it's exciting to see what the future holds for the program. "

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they face Johns Hopkins at Stevenson University at 1:00 pm, and then face the host Mustangs at 3 p.m.
