UMW Volleyball Falls in Season Opener in Five Sets to Randolph-Macon

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a five set decision to visiting Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday night in the Eagles' season opener. Set scores were 22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 21-25, 15-9.

The Eagles fell behind early in the first set, but stormed back late for a 25-22 win. In the second, the Yellow Jackets jumped ahead and stayed there, winning 25-16. In the third, the Jackets edged ahead late for a 25-20 win before the Eagles responded with a 25-20 win in set four. The Jackets jumped ahead, 4-1, in the fifth en route to a 15-9 win.

The Eagles were led by sophomore Rachel Hendricks, who scored 18 kills, with freshman Leslie Walters adding 15. Junior Emma Olson had 35 assists and 22 digs, while sophomore Jenna Yost led with 23 digs. Emma Murphy had four blocks for UMW.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they face Hiram at 2 p.m. and Bridgewater at 6 p.m.
