Freshmen Hitters Lead UMW Volleyball Past Salisbury in CAC Action, 3-1

Freshmen Dani Fiore, Kyla Foss, and Rachel Hendricks combined for 40 kills to lead the University of Mary Washington volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Salisbury University in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday at the Anderson Center. UMW improves to 2-1 in league play.

After dropping the first set, 25-17, the Eagles responded by taking a thrilling 27-25 advantage in set two. The Eagles continued to impress, taking the third, 25-13, and the fourth, 25-19. The win was UMW's first over the Sea Gulls since 2010.

Hendricks led the Eagles with 16 kills against one error in 37 attempts. Foss had 13 kills and three errors in 29 attempts, and Fiore added 11 kills in 34 attempts. Foss added 13 digs and Fiore 11. Sophomore Emma Olson scored 45 assists for the Eagles, who saw Jenna Yost add 17 digs and junior Emma Murphy add nine kills.

The Eagles played Bridgewater College at 5 p.m. at the Anderson Center.
