UMW Splits Pair at Carnegie Mellon Doubletree Invite; Coach Troy Wins 100th Match

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Carnegie Mellon University Doubletree Invitational on Saturday, topping Pitt-Greensburg before falling to Buffalo State in five sets. The win over Pitt-Greensburg was the 100th collegiate win for head coach Matt Troy. The Eagles stand at 10-4 on the season.

The Eagles easily downed Pitt Greensburg in three sets, 25-17, 27-7, 25-12. The Eagles used a balanced effort, with Kelsey Stanbro scoring eight kills, Rachel Hendricks and Emma Murphy adding seven apiece, and Lexi Donaldson and Victoria Howell adding six apiece. Jenifer Grove had 21 assists and four aces for the Eagles, while Jenna Yost had nine digs and Donaldson five block assists.

UMW then fell to Buffalo State, 25-17, 20-25, 25-22, 10-25, 15-12. In that match, freshman Dani Fiore had 18 kills and Hendricks 17, while Grove had 19 assists and six aces. Megan Payne had 32 assists to lead the squad, while Yost had 18 digs.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday night when they host Gallaudet University at 7:00 p.m.
