UMW Volleyball Falls to Carnegie-Mellon, Tops Scranton in CMU Doubletree Invite

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to host Carnegie-Mellon University before topping the University of Scranton in five sets at the CMU Doubletree Invitational on Friday night in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Eagles move to 9-3 on the season.

In the loss to CMU, the Eagles were edged, 27-25, in the first set, before falling 25-12 in the second.UMW rallied to win the third, 25-23, but fell, 25-17 in set four. Sophomore Kelsey Stanbro led the Eagles with 15 kills and no errors, while freshman Dani Fiore added 10 kills.

The Eagles rebounded to storm from behind to defeat Scranton, 3-2. Set scores were 23-25, 16-25, 26-24, 26-24, 15-6. Fiore led the Eagles with 17 kills, while Megan Payne had 20 assists, and four kills. Jenifer Grove scored 21 assists for UMW.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday in Pittsburgh at 10 a.m. against Pitt-Greensburg.
