UMW Volleyball Remains Undefeated to Claim DeSales Invitational; Fiore Named Tourney MVP

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated DeSales University and Rutgers-Camden by 3-0 scores to claim the DeSales Invitational championship on Saturday and move to 4-0 on the season. Freshman Dani Fiore was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, and was joined on the all-tournament team by sophomore Emma Olson.

The Eagles opened the day by topping the host Bulldogs, 25-23, 25-16, 25-13. Sophomore Emma Murphy led the way with nine kills without an error, while Fiore and freshman Rachel Hendricks each had eight kills against two errors. Olson had six kills, 22 assists, and 10 digs, while Fiore added eight service aces. Caroline Porco led with 13 digs. Murphy had six digs and four block assists.

UMW then topped Rutgers-Camden, 25-17, 25-14, 25-11. Sophomore Victoria Howell led UMW with six kills, while Fiore added five kills and three aces. Freshman Jenifer Grove had 16 assists and Olson 11, and Grove, Kyla Foss, and Murphy each added three aces. Porco had seven digs for the Eagles.

For the weekend, Fiore had 30 kills against 10 errors in 79 attempts, and added 22 service aces. Olson contributed 80 assists in the four Eagle victories.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 7:00 p.m.
