YORK, Pa. - Christopher Newport, the CAC regular-season and
tournament champion, swept the individual awards and tied Mary
Washington and Salisbury with four players each on the 2013 All-CAC
Volleyball team.
Senior Chastity Lacy (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) and freshman
Briana Sutton (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) were selected by the
CAC coaches as first-team all-stars and the 2013 Co-Players of the
Year. Sutton was also picked as the Rookie of the Year while
Lindsay Birch, who led the Captains to the CAC titles and an
automatic berth in the NCAA Championship Tournament, was named the
Coach of the Year.
Lacy and Sutton were joined by teammates and second-team All-CAC
honorees sophomore Rachel Conway (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) and
freshman Hannah Miller (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County).
Salisbury, which finished second in the CAC regular season and
advanced to the conference championship match, placed juniors
Michelle Meehan (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee), Mattie Smith (Middletown,
Md./Middletown) and freshman Katie Stouffer (Frederick,
Md./Tuscarora) on the All-CAC first team - each for the first
time. SU junior Julie Poston (Laurel, Md./Reservoir)
earned her second-straight berth on the All-CAC second team.
Mary Washington, which took Salisbury down to the wire in the CAC
Tournament semifinals, matched CNU and SU with four players on the
All-CAC team. The Eagles were led by senior Kaitlynn
Wickersham (Midlothian, Va./Manchester), who earned her initial
first-team all-star nod after appearing as a second-team player the
past two seasons.
Joining Wickersham on the All-CAC team were junior Kayla Crawford
(Richmond, Va./Powhatan), sophomore Emma Murphy (Midlothian,
Va./Midlothian) and freshman Emma Olson (Oakton, Va./Oakton).
All three are first-time All-CAC honorees.
St. Mary’s and Marymount each placed one player on the
All-CAC first-team. SMC sophomore Mandy Goodspeed (Columbia,
Md./Atholton), the 2012 CAC Rookie of the Year, earned her
second-straight first-team award while Marymount sophomore Morgan
McAlpin (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) is a first-time All-CAC
honoree.
Marymount junior Erin Allison (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) also
earned second-team All-CAC recognition for the second-straight
season.
Two players from Southern Virginia and one from York also earned
second-team All-CAC recognition.
Southern Virginia, a first-year CAC member which was not eligible
for the CAC Tournament this season due to its status as a
second-year NCAA provisional member, placed junior Kaitlyn Eaton
(Syracuse, Utah/Syracuse) and freshman April Bennett (Kaysville,
Utah/Davis) on the All-CAC team. The Knights will be
eligible for CAC post-season play in 2014.
York freshman Ijeoma Igwe (Windsor Mill, Md./Seton Kehoe) also
picked up her first All-CAC nod, giving the conference six freshmen
and 14 newcomers to the all-star squad.
