Salisbury, Md.-- The University of Mary Washington women's volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker to the Sea Gulls in the semifinal round of the CAC Tournament. The Eagles won the opening game before flip flopping each set with Salisbury. In the deciding fifth game, the Eagles lost a 17-15 decision. The loss ends the Eagles season at 17-12, 6-2 CAC.

Game one saw the Eagles start the match off with a kill courtesy of Kayla Crawford. The kill was the first of 24 for the junior in the match. Salisbury then rattled off ten straight to take a 10-1 lead. The Eagles fought back to tie it at 13-13, then saw each team exchange serves and points. The Eagles pulled away late, winning game one 27-25. 

The second stanza saw UMW take a slim 6-4 lead before another Sea Gull run gave them an 11-6 lead. From there the Eagles would scratch and claw their way back, but Salisbury proved too much down the stretch, winning 25-16. Game three saw a back and forth affair, which proved to be the story of the match. With the score 22-20 Salisbury, UMW rattled off five points thanks to kills from; Emma Murphy, Emma Olson and Crawford to win the game 25-22.

Game four was started with a big 4-1 push by Mary Washington. But as it was all night, Salisbury had an answer. The match went back and forth with Salisbury pulling away late to win 25-20, setting up the pivitol decisive game five.

In the final stanza, neither team gave an inch, exchanging points back and forth. With Salisbury having the serve for match point at 14-13, Sea Gull Mattie Smith put her serve into the net giving the Eagles hope. Another Sea Gull kill gave them a second match point, but yet again Salisbury could not capitalize. The Eagles faced a third match point at 16-15, and the block attempt by Mary Washington went wide, giving the Sea Gulls the point and the match 17-15. 

Crawford had a huge day, registering 24 kills on 50 attempts for an attack percentage of .320. Alexis Cummings added 13 kills against the Sea Gulls, while senior Kaitlynn Wickersham added eight kills along with 16 digs. Olson helped the Eagles offense with 8 kills and pouring in 41 assists.
