Women's Volleyball Falls to Christopher Newport, 3-0 on Wednesday

Newport News, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington women's volleyball team fell to the Captains 3-0 on Wednesday. The Eagles took two of the three games past 25 points, but could not hold off CNU. The loss drops the Eagles to 15-10, 5-2 CAC for the year.

The Eagles were involved in a back and forth affair for game one. With the Eagles trailing 14-12, the Captains rattled off five straight points to force a UMW timeout. UMW made it close, but fell in game one 25-20. Game two saw each team make runs, with CNU never giving up the lead. The Eagles crawled their way back to tie it at 24-24, but two straight Captain points gave them the win, 26-24. In what was a thrilling game three, the Eagles jumped out to a 15-11 lead, forcing the Captains to call a timeout. CNU clawed back to take a lead at 22-21, and from there, each team exchanged points. CNU put the match away, winning game three 29-27 and the match 3-0.

UMW was paced by Kaitlynn Wickersham (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) and her team high 13 kills. Wickersham also added three service aces and seven digs in the contest. Emma Murphy (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) chipped in 11 kills, and Emma Olson (Oakton, Va./Oakton) added 24 assists.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday, November 2nd. The Eagles close out the regular season with a CAC match against Penn St. Harrisburg at noon, and a non-conference match against Susquehana University at 2:00 p.m. The two matches will be played at Penn St. Harrisburg.
