Eagles Split Final Two Matches at Sea Gull Classic

Salisbury, Md.-- The University of Mary Washington women's volleyball team split their final two matches of the Sea Gull Classic today. The Eagles fell 3-1 to Juniata in the morning, before defeating Bridgwater 3-0 in the afternoon.

The opening match saw the Eagles take one game from the nationally ranked Eagles in a 3-1 loss. 

In the second match of the day, the Eagles took on Bridgewater, a team they recently lost to just weeks ago. UMW jumped on Bridgewater early, taking the first eight points of game one. From there, the Eagles got a couple kills from Emma Olson (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and Alexis Cummings (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) on another run to increase the lead to 12-2. UMW won game one 25-11.

Game two saw Bridgewater jump out early with a 3-1 lead before UMW fought back to cut the deficit to 6-5. The game went back and forth before the Eagles took command and won game two 25-19. In game three, UMW got out to a 12-4 lead and never looked back. They clinched the game and the match with a 25-17 win. 

The Eagles got 12 kills from Cummings, as well as 11 kills from Kaitlynn Wickersham (Midlothian, Va./Manchester). Olson chipped in 25 assists and three service aces. The Eagles are now 11-8 overall, and 2-1 in CAC play. 

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, October 16th. UMW hosts Southern Virginia in a match beginning at 7:00 p.m. from the Anderson Center.
