Women's Volleyball Falls to Salisbury, 3-1

Salisbury, Md.-- The University of Mary Washington women's volleyball team fell to Salisbury on Friday evening 3-1. The Eagles dropped the opening two games before winning game three. The Sea Gulls closed the match with a fourth game victory. 

The Sea Gulls jumped out early with a 12-3 lead to open game one. The Eagles rallied, cutting it to 16-7, but The Sea Gulls took game one with a 25-11 win. Game two saw both teams go back and forth, exchanging points with the Eagles taking a 7-3 lead early. Salisbury fought back, tying the game at 12-12. From there, Salisbury took control late and put the Eagles away 25-20. 

In game three, Mary Washington jumped out early 11-5 and never looked back. The Sea Gulls got it close, before the Eagles stepped on the gas and put away Salisbury 25-17. In the final game, Salisbury controlled the game from the first serve, winning game four 25-13 and the match 3-1.

The Eagles were paced by Kaitlynn Wickersham (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) and her team high ten kills. She also chipped in two service aces. Freshman Emma Olson (Oakton, Va./Oakton) added six kills and 22 assists for the Eagles. The loss drops the Eagles to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in CAC play. 

UMW returns to action tomorrow, Saturday October 12th at the Sea Gull Classic. Day two of the event will see the Eagles take on Juniata at 10 A.M. and Bridgewater at Noon.
