Volleyball Picks Up Two Wins on Final Day of Virginia Wesleyan Invitational

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team picked up their first two wins of the season by defeating host Virginia Wesleyan 3-2 and Johnson & Wales (R.I) 3-0. The team improves to 2-2 on the season.

In the match with the Virginia Wesleyan, the Eagles dropped the first set 25-15, before bouncing back to win the next set 25-16. The Marlins took set three in a back and forth affair 25-23. The Eagles won a decisive fourth set 25-22 before winning the deciding final set 15-5 to seal the victory. Freshman Emma Olson (Vienna, Va./Oakton) paced the Eagles with 17 kills. Senior Kaitlynn Wickersham (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) had 13 kills in the contest.

The Eagles cruised to a 3-0 victory over Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in the second match of the day. Olson again led UMW in kills with 12.

UMW returns to action this Wednesday, September 4th when the Eagles host Randolph-Macon. The match with Randolph-Macon begins at 7:00 pm in the Anderson Center.
