Volleyball Falls in Opening Matches at Virginia Wesleyan Invitational

The University of Mary Washington women's volleyball team dropped both of their opening matches of the Virginia Wesleyan Volleyball Invitational on Friday night. 

The Eagles lost 3-1 to Randolph College in the opening match of the 2013 season. The Wildcats won the first set 25-21 before the Eagles came back and took the second set 25-19.  In the third set, Randolph won 25-18 setting up a pivotal fourth set for UMW. The Eagles and Wildcats were tied at 24 before Randolph rattled off the next two points to take the victory 26-24.

In the nightcap, The Eagles squared off with the Meredith College Avenging Angels. It was a similar story for UMW. Meredith took the first set, 25-18 before the Eagles took set two with a score of 25-16. In the third set, Meredith won 25-21 before finishing the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set. 

The Eagles return to action tomorrow, Saturday August 31 with two more matches in the Virginia Wesleyan Volleyball Invitational. UMW faces Johnson & Wales (R.I.) at noon, then ends the day with a match against host Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 pm.
