UMW Volleyball Upsets First-Place Marymount in CAC Matchup

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Marymount University, 3-1, on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action in Arlington, Va. UMW improves to 7-12 overall and 3-2 in CAC action. The set scores were 25-21, 25-17, 19-25, 25-23.

The Eagles were led by junior Kaitlynn Wickersham, who posted 16 kills and 11 digs, while Kayla Crawford scored eight kills and Ellen Smethurst and Emma Tennant seven each. Christine Tran had 15 digs for UMW, and Courtney Guengerich had 21 assists and Maggie Parrish 16.

With the win, UMW keeps its hopes alive for a second place finish in the conference. With a win in their conference finale next week at York, the Eagles could possibly gain a tie for second. The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host Mary Baldwin College at noon as part of Homecoming.
