UMW Volleyball Falls in Five to Va Wesleyan

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a five-set decision to Virginia Wesleyan College on Friday night to fall to 5-4 on the season. Set scores were 19-25, 25-23, 25-15, 22-25, 15-12.

The Eagles fell behind in the first, 7-0, but came storming back to take the set, 25-19. The Marlins answered by taking the next two sets, but UMW rallied to take the fourth set. The Marlins jumped ahead in the fifth and never trailed in gaining the win.

UMW was led by Kayla Crawford's 12 kills and Ellen Smethurst's 10 kills. Courtney Guengerich had 18 assists and Maggie Parrish add 15 for UMW, while Christine Tran had 18 digs and Kaitlynn Wickersham added 12.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Salisbury University in Capital Athletic Conference action starting at 7:00 p.m.
