Wickersham, Herrick Lead UMW Volleyball Past Bridgewater, 3-0

Junior Kaitlynn Wickersham scored 13 kills and senior Karissa Herrick added 11 to lead the University of Mary Washington volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Bridgewater College on Wednesday night in the Anderson Center to improve to 2-0 on the year. Set scores were 25-23, 25-19, 25-20.

The Eagles won the first set after a back-and forth affair in which the lead changed hands several times. UMW jumped out to early leads in the second and third and held on for wins in each set to remain unbeaten on the young season.

In addition to her 13 kills in 27 attempts, Wickersham added a team high 10 digs, while Herrick scored 10 kills in 18 attempts and added a solo block. Kayla Crawford had seven kills and six digs for UMW, while senior Laura Gomez scored seven kills and had a team-high four solo blocks.

Freshman Maggie Parrish had 18 assists for UMW, while freshman Courtney Guengerich had 15, along with five service aces.

The Eagles will face Ursinus College at 10:30 a.m. at the Syevenson University Invitational on Saturday.
