UMW Volleyball Falls at Salisbury in Five Sets
The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a five-set match at Salisbury University on Tuesday night to fall to 12-2 on the season, and 2-1 in CAC play. Set scores were 19-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 15-10.

The Eagles were able to jump ahead by winning the first set, 25-19, and two of the first three sets. Down 10-1 in the fourth set, the Eagles streaked to tie the score at 13, but were edged, 25-22, in the fourth, setting up the pivotal fifth set. UMW fell behind early and couldn't regain the lead in the fifth, falling 15-10 for just their second defeat of the season.

Sophomore Kaitlynn Wickersham (Midlothian, Va., Manchester) scored 18 kills and nine digs to lead Mary Washington, while senior Tola Adebanjo (Overland Park, Ks., Blue Valley Northwest) had 12 kills and eight digs, and Laura Gomez (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) and Ellen Smethurst (Charlottesville, Va., Covenant School) each had nine kills for UMW. Senior Katie Shiflett (Weyers Cave, Va., Fort Defiance) had 49 assists and 12 digs for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will host North Carolina Wesleyan College on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
