#15 UMW Women's Tennis Tops #21 Washington & Lee, 5-1, in NCAA Round 2

The #15 University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated #21 Washington & Lee University, 5-1, on Saturdau afternoon in Lexington, Va. The Eagles improve to 13-5 on the season, and will advance to the third round on Sunday.

The Eagles opened the match with authority, taking all three doubles matches. Senior Claire Coleman and junior Amanda Hagino finished first, taking an 8-4 decision at two, and were followed by sophomore Hana Kimmey and freshman Emily Beckner's 8-5 victory at three. Senior Lauren Quinn and junior Abby Moghtader completed the sweep with a grueling 8-7 victory at one to send UMW to singles play up 3-0.

In siingles action, play was moved indoors while in progress. Washington & Lee gained a point with a win at one, but the Eagles quickly rebounded with victories by its two seniors - Coleman at two (6-1, 7-5), and Quinn at three (7-6, 6-0) to clinch the match.

UMW will be back in action on Sunday, as they face third-ranked Wesleyan (Conn.) University.
