UMW Women's Tennis Falls to Kenyon, 5-2, in NCAA Quarterfinal

The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team saw its run toward an NCAA Division III Championship come to a close on Monday, as the Eagles fell to Kenyon College, 5-2, in the national quarterfinal round in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Eagles, the lone public school to advance to the quarterfinals, closes the season with its first loss to a Division III school this season, with a record of 14-3.

In doubles, all three matches were tightly fought, with Kenyon taking an 8-5 win at two and an 8-6 win at three. At one, Abby Moghtader and Lauren Quinn rallied from a 7-4 deficit to win a tiebreaker to take an all-important point heading to singles play.

Kenyon gained the first singles point, taking a 6-1, 6-1 match at two singles. The Eagles gained one back at six, as Rachel Cooper claimed a 6-3, 6-4 win at six singles. Kenyon gained the clinching points with wins at three and four, with Hana Kimmey on the verge of victory at five.

Moghtader, Claire Coleman and Quinn will remain in Chattanooga for the national singles and doubles tournaments, starting on Friday.
