Abby Moghtader Named C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2021 tennis season. Mary Washington sophomore Abby Moghtader earned C2C Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades, while Christopher Newport senior Scotty Hunter claimed C2C Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.


WOMEN'S TENNIS: Abby Moghtader - Mary Washington

Sophomore Abby Moghtader led #15 Mary Washington to a season-opening victory over Washington College on Friday, posting victories at one singles and one doubles. In doubles, she and Lauren Quinn defeated Alisha White and Irene Meng, 8-3. In singles, Moghtader was the first match to finish, as she topped Piper Sartison at one, 6-3, 6-2.


MEN'S TENNIS: Scotty Hunter - Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport senior Scotty Hunter won all four of his matches in a pair of team victories on Saturday, March 13. The Captains garnered wins over St. Mary's (Md.) in C2C action while also defeating Averett in non-league play. Hunter won his first singles match (6-0, 6-0) over Nick Rohr and then held off Averett's Jorge Figueroa (6-4, 7-6 (4)). He also paired with Matthew Dubuque for wins at two doubles by scores of 8-0 and 8-4.

LEAGUE NOTES

Patrick MacLean earned a two-set sweep over Landon Strober in No. 1 singles to help Salisbury beat Washington (Md.), 8-1. After a 6-2 win in the first set, MacLean toughed out a 7-6(8) win in the second set...Andrew Watson provided Mary Washington's lone point in a 6-1 loss to Division I James Madison University on Sunday, scoring a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 win at two singles over Alvaro Arce...Went 2-1 in both singles and doubles this week to help the team post the same record as they opened the season with a narrow 5-4 loss to Division I Norfolk State before sweeping St. Mary's (Md.) and Sweet Briar on Saturday ... Delp won the first set against her Division I opponent, Paula Fortuno, at No. 1 singles, but ultimately succumbed to a 6-4, 3-6, 3-6 loss ... She bounced back for two wins on Saturday, defeating the Seahawks' Hallie Hershey (6-1, 6-0) and the Vixens' Ruth de Souza (6-4, 2-6, 10-7) ... Also paired with Kara Ferner at 2 doubles for a 2-1 week with 8-0 and 8-2 wins against the Division III competition while battling against the Division I foes before falling 8-5...n their first outing of the season, sophomore Anna Peterson played in the No. 2 spot for the Knights in singles. Peterson was about to defeat her opponent without much resistance 6-3, and 6-4.
