#15 UMW Women's Tennis Tops Christopher Newport, 5-0, in 2019 CAC Championship

The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team captured its 16th consecutive Capital Athletic Conference Championship by defeating #24 Christopher Newport University, 5-0, on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 20-4 on the season.

The action started with doubles play and the Eagles pulled away victories from freshman Calire Coleman and senior Danielle Mirabella at two, 8-2, and then from junior Rachel Summers and freshman Lauren Quinn at one, 8-4. UMW completed the sweep with an 8-6 victory at three from sophomores Sophie Dixon and Olivia Moore.

In singles, sophomore Rachel Cooper grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 win at six, and Mirabella followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win at four to clinch the match and championship.

The Eagles have won 27 CAC Championships, including in each of the past 16 years. UMW will await their placing in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, to be played next weekend. The selections are to be announced by the NCAA on Monday evening at 6 p.m.
