#17 UMW Women's Tennis Sweeps Methodist and F&M, 9-0, in Season Openers

The 17th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team swept a 9-0 decision from Methodist University on Saturday morning at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center, and followed with a 9-0 victory over Franklin & Marshall College in the afternoon to kick off the 2019 spring season. 

The Eagles began with a sweep in doubles play, as Rachel Summers and Lauren Quinn won at one doubles, 8-4; Danielle Mirabella and Claire Coleman won at two, 8-2; and Olivia Moore and Sophie Dixon won at three, 8-0.

In singles play, Coleman was victorious at one, 6-1, 6-0; Mirabella won at two, 6-3, 6-2; and Quinn won at three, 6-1, 6-1. At four, Dixon won, 6-4, 6-1; and Rachel Cooper won at five, 6-0, 6-0. Moore won at six, 6-0, 6-0.

The Eagles then took on Franklin & Marshall College in afternoon action, and topped the Diplomats, 9-0.

In the doubles action, Quinn and Summers won at one, 8-3, and Coleman and Mirabella won at two, 8-2. Dixon and Cooper completed the sweep with an 8-2 win at three. In singles, Coleman won at two, 6-0, 6-0, and Quinn won at three, 6-0, 6-4. Mirabella won at four, 6-2, 6-0, and Dixon and Cooper each won at five and six, 6-0, 6-0. Summers capped the day with a three set win at one to complete the sweep.

UMW will host Longwood University on Sunday at 11 am in an exhibition against the Division I Lancers.
