#18 UMW Women’s Tennis Downs St. Mary’s, #20 Johns Hopkins on Sunday

The eighteenth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated St. Mary's College and twentieth-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Sunday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles beat St. Mary's 9-0, and Johns Hopkins 6-3. UMW improves to 14-4 overall, and 7-0 in the CAC.

Against St. Mary's, UMW took all three doubles matches. Danielle Mirabella and Brittany McBride won at one doubles 8-6; Sophie Dixon and Rachel Cooper won at two doubles 8-5; Sara Fioretti and Emily Bowerman won at three doubles 8-2.

In singles action, the Eagles only dropped eight games total in the six matches. Hannah Jabusch won at one singles 6-1, 6-2; Mirabella won at two singles 6-0, 6-1; Addie Hinton won at three singles 6-3, 6-0; Dixon won at four singles 6-0, 6-0; Moore won at five singles 6-1, 6-0; and Bowerman won at six singles 6-0, 6-0.

UMW won all three matches in doubles against Johns Hopkins to take a 3-0 lead. Kait Brogan and Ashley Barrow won at one doubles 8-2; Caroline Mosberg and Rachel Summers won at two doubles 8-4; McBride and Mirabella won at three doubles 8-3.

In singles action, Johns Hopkins and UMW split 3-3. Brogan won at one singles 6-4, 2-6, 10-2; Jabusch won at four singles 6-3, 7-5; Mirabella won at five singles 6-1, 6-3.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday as they will travel to Salisbury for a match at 1 p.m.
