#16 UMW Women’s Tennis Defeats Penn St.-Harrisburg, #26 CNU on Sunday

The sixteenth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated Penn St.-Harrisburg University and Christopher Newport University on Sunday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. UMW took down Penn St.-Harrisburg 9-0, and CNU 8-1. The Eagles improve to 10-3 overall, and 3-0 in the CAC.

In the first match, UMW dominated doubles play as they didn't lose a single game. Brittany McBride and Danielle Mirabella won at one doubles 8-0; Sara Fioretti and Rachel Cooper won at two doubles 8-0; Olivia Moore and Emily Bowerman won at three doubles 8-0.

The Eagles continued their dominance in singles play as the only lost a total of five games in the six matches. Hannah Jabusch won at one singles 6-0, 6-0; Addie Hinton won at two singles 6-2, 6-2; Moore won at three singles 6-0, 6-0; Sophie Dixon won at four singles 6-0, 6-1; Fioretti won at five singles 6-0, 6-0; and Bowerman won at six singles 6-0, 6-0. 

Against CNU, the Eagles again won all three doubles matches. Kait Brogan and Ashley Barrow won at one doubles 8-0; Caroline Mosberg and Rachel Summers won at two doubles 8-2; McBride and Mirabella won at three doubles 9-7.

In singles action, UMW only lost one match. Summers won at two singles 6-4, 6-1; Mosberg won at three singles 2-6, 7-5, 6-3; Jabusch won at four singles 6-0, 6-1; Mirabella won at five singles 6-2, 6-2; and Cooper won at six singles 6-3, 7-5. CNU took one singles 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will host #6 Carnegie Mellon at 11:30 a.m.
