Sunday proved to be a successful day for the University of Mary Washington women's tennis team at the ITA Regional Tournament at the Battleground.
In singles, sophomore Rachel Summers has advanced to the semifinal round, defeating fifth seeded Jamie Vizelman, 6-2, 6-3, in the round of 16, and then topping third seeded Michelle Fleenor, 6-0, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. Caroline Mosberg, Danielle Mirabella, and Kait Brogan fell in the round of 16, with Brogan retiring due to injury.
In doubles action, the unseeded duo of Mosberg and Summers defeated Selenica and Vizelman in the quarterfinals, 8-3, to advance to the semifinals.The top three duos in the tournament have been defeated through the first two days of action.
Action will resume at the Battleground on Monday morning.
