UMW Women's Tennis Fares Well on Day One of ITA Regional Championship

The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team fared well on day one of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday at the Battleground.

In singles, play, the Eagles saw seven players in the main draw, and all won first round matches. Second seeded Kait Brogan won her first round match against Aileen BeVard, 6-1, 6-0, and Hannah Jabusch downed Hanna Butler, 6-1, 6-3. Addie Hinton topped Halle Lavieri, 6-2, 6-1, and ninth seed Rachel Summers beat Kate Huck, 6-3, 6-2. Danielle Mirabella beat Courtney Ollis, 6-4, 6-1, and nine seed Caroline Mosberg topped Mary McNeal, 7-5, 6-1. Rachel Cooper defeated Alexandra Epstein, 6-0, 6-1.

In the second round of singles, Jabusch lost to the six seed Annika Kezman, 6-3, 6-0; Hinton fell to four seed Johanna Ranta-aho, 6-1, 6-0; Summers defeated Heidi Sarkinen, 6-3, 6-2; and Mirabella topped ninth seeded Christina Harris, 7-5, 6-4. Mosberg topped Keyu Jin, 6-1, 6-2, and Cooper fell to top seeded Cori Sidell, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0.

In doubles action, Mosberg and Summers topped Gerke and Simon, 8-4, Sara Fioretti and Jabusch fell to Huck and Ranta-aho, 8-3, and third seeded Ashley Barrow and Brogan beat Harris and Lavieri, 8-0.
