#15 UMW Women's Tennis Tops Bates, 8-1, on Sunday in Blue/Grey Finale

The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated Bates College, 8-1, on Sunday at the Battleground in their final match of the Blue/Grey Classic. The Eagles improve to 9-3 on the season.

The doubles gained all the momentum by claiming all three doubles matches. Kait Brogan and Taylor Diffley won at one, 8-4, and Ashley Barrow and Rachel Summers won at two, 8-5. Caroline Mosberg and Danielle Mirabella won at three, 8-3, and UMW gained a three-point head start heading to singles action.

Mirabella quickly gained a 6-1, 6-2 win at six, and Summers claimed the clinching point at four, with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Brogan followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at one, and Hannah Jabusch took a 6-0, 6-2 win at five. Diffley won a superbreaker in the third, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4, for the Eagles' eighth point.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Christopher Newport University at noon.
