Case Western Reserve University will serve as host of the men's tournament for the second consecutive year. The men's championship takes place Feb. 24-26, 2017, from the Cleveland Racquet Club in Cleveland, Ohio. Sewanee: The University of the South, is the site for the women's draw, which is scheduled for March 3-5, 2017, at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This is the first time that Sewanee will host the ITA Division III Women's National Team Indoor Championship.

All eight teams in the men's field concluded the 2016 season ranked in the national Top 15, with six teams landing in the Top 10. Emory (No. 2), Washington University in St. Louis (No. 4) and Chicago (No. 5) each possessed a Top 5 ranking. Carnegie Mellon (No. 7), host Case Western Reserve (No. 8), Pomona-Pitzer (No. 9), Kenyon (No. 11) and Trinity (TX) (No. 14) comprise the remainder of the men's draw.

The women's championship features the 2016 NCAA Division III National Champion and No. 1-ranked Emory Eagles. Pomona-Pitzer (No. 6) and Chicago (No. 10) both finished the 2016 season with national Top 10 rankings. Rounding out the women's field are Washington University in St. Louis (No. 11), Carnegie Mellon (No. 12), host Sewanee (No. 13), Johns Hopkins (No. 14) and Mary Washington (No. 15).
