UMW Women's Tennis Volunteers with Special Olympics

On Saturday March 12 the UMW Women’s Tennis team hosted athletes from the Area 11 Special Olympics tennis teams. The teams worked together to sharpen their skills running through drill sets and playing full games. Each UMW student-athlete was able to connect with athletes from Area 11 and both groups learned a lot from one another. “The best part of the experience was just seeing the athletes smile. The amount of pure joy on their faces as they were hitting back and forth with the team was awesome,” said UMW senior Paige Weinberg “My favorite part of the day was during a water break when I asked a couple of the athletes if they did any other sports…One girl was telling me how she had won two gold medals in skiing. I told her how I wished I could ski and she told me that she would help me learn that like I was helping her with her tennis, which was a pretty special moment.”

Following the clinic the athletes stayed out at the Battleground athletic complex for Spring Jubilee and cheered our men’s and women’s lacrosse teams to wins!
