#14 UMW Women's Tennis Falls to #8 Wesleyan, 5-0, on Saturday in NCAA Tournament Second Round

The 14th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to eighth-ranked Wesleyan College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Amherst, Mass., on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles close the seawson with a record of 20-5.

Wesleyan jumped on top by sweeping the singlers action. Eudice Chong and Aashli Budhiraja topped Kait Brogan and Shelby Harris at one, 8-2, and Victoria Yu and Helen Klass-Warch won at two over Mackenzie Smith and Taylor Diffley, 8-2.

The Cardinals gained a 3-0 advantage, as Nicole McCann and Dasha Dubinsky topped Caroline Mosberg and Sara Fioretti at three, 8-6.

In singles, the Eagles picked up first set wins from Mosberg at four and Chrissy Gaul at six, and dropped two more in tiebreaks, with Diffley at three and Smith at five. But Wesleyan took straight set wins at one, with Chong beating Brogan, 6-0, 6-0, and at two with Yu topping Harris, 6-3, 7-5, for the decision.

Harris and Brogan will advance to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich. next week, as Brogan will compete in singles and team with Harris in doubles.
