#18 UMW Women's Tennis Splits Saturday Matches at Southern Va., #13 Washington & Lee.

The 18th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team swept a 9-0 decision at Southern Virginia University in Capital Athletic Conference action before falling in a 5-4 decision at #13 Washington & Lee University on Saturday in Lexington, Va.

Against the Knights, UMW picked up doubles wins from Mackenzie Smith and Taylor Diffley at one, 8-0, Sara Fioretti and Caroline Mosberg at two, 8-1, and Chrissy Gaul and Alina Suyama at three, 8-0.

In singles, Mirabella won at one, 6-1, 6-1, Hannah Jabusch won at two, 6-0, 6-0, and Ashley Price won at three, 6-1, 6-0. Brittany McBride won at four, 6-0, 6-1, Paige Weinberg won at five, 8-0, and Berri Flood won at six, 6-0, 6-0.

The Eagles took two of three in doubles at Washington and Lee, as Shlby Harris and Kait Brogan won at one, 9-7, and Fioretti and Mosberg won at three, 8-4.

UMW then picked up singles wins from Smith at five, 6-1, 6-2, and Gaul won at six, 6-3, 6-2. The Eagles fought hard but dropped tight contests at 1-4.

The Eagles stand at 12-3 on the season, and will be back in action on Sunday when they host Franklin & Marshall College at 11:00 a.m.
